Furry Friends Refuge is a no-kill shelter with locations in West Des Moines and Des Moines. The volunteer-based nonprofit has built no-kill communities in West Des Moines, Clive, and Urbandale and is working to bring the no-kill equation to neighboring cities as well.
Saturday, Nov. 7: Furry Friends Refuge will have adoptable animals at its table at the Jefferson Elementary Community Fair, 2425 Watrous Ave. in Des Moines. The fair is from 9 a.m. from 2 p.m. and includes drawings for door prizes, including one courtesy of Furry Friends. Be sure to tell organizers that Furry Friends sent you, because the organization that recruits the most attendees receives a prize.
Thursday, Nov. 12, and Thursday, Dec. 17: Select businesses participating in Valley Junction’s Sip & Shop promotion will donate a portion of proceeds to Furry Friends Refuge. Sip & Shop takes place from 5 to 7 p.m., and businesses supporting Furry Friends are Light the Earth, Nan’s Nummies, and The Funky Zebras.
Saturday, Nov. 14: Furry Friends and some of its adoptables will attend the F.E.W. Holiday Bazaar at Valley Community Center, 4444 Fuller Road in West Des Moines. This event takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 19: Furry Friends will join the festivities at Jingle in the Junction, a holiday event hosted by the Historic Valley Junction Foundation. Come see our volunteers and adoptable animals in the community center, 137 Fifth St., from 5 to 9 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 5, and Sunday, Dec. 6: Come get your pet’s photo taken with Santa Claus to benefit the animals of Furry Friends Refuge. Please note the times are different for each day: 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Our community spay/neuter clinic at 1209 Grand Ave., West Des Moines, will serve as the studio. (The clinic is next door to Furry Friends’ shelter.)
