Omaha’s big pet events always seem to come in late summer and early fall. Between Pick-a-Pooch Adoption Days in July and the Nebraska Humane Society’s Walk for the Animals in September, there are a number of rescues and shelters that have their largest yearly events this time of year. Check them out and we’ll see you there!

Leashes at Lauritzen Gardens, September 4, 2017

The garden has gone to the dogs! Bring your canine friends to walk the grounds and enjoy the great outdoors together. This is an informal, fun way to enjoy and explore our 100 acres and miles of trails with the family and the family dog. Water and treats will be available at stations throughout the garden. Don’t miss this tail wagging good time!

Admission is $10, FREE for garden members

Midtown Patio Pup Crawl, September 12

Patio Pup Crawl Series in Midtown Crossing, brought to you by mycity.dog! This event is open to the public and will run between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m.

Omaha.dog & Midtown Crossing at Turner Park bring you the first annual Patio Pup Crawl series all summer long! Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month starting in May through September, bring your dog and hop around the patios of Cantina Laredo CRAVE Restaurant and Black Oak Grill Omaha.Each night will be hosted by a different dog-centric organization in Omaha. Win prizes, enjoy drink and food specials and more.

The 2017 Nebraska Humane Society Walk for the Animals – September 24, 2017

The biggest annual “fun”draiser, the Margre Durham Walk for the Animals, will take place Sunday, September 24th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is $10 at the gate.

Fun activities planned to make the Walk the biggest and best dog-friendly event in town:

• Leisure 1-mile walk and/or 5K run

• Beer garden

• BBQ

• Free photo booth

• Dog paw painting

• Scavenger hunt, and tons of activities “tailer”-made for kids

• Adoption parade

• Celebration of NHS alumni pets

• 20+ rescue groups

• Face painting, bouncy house, and rock climbing

There’s a dog-friendly 5K (yep, you can run with your dog!) for runners.

October 1, 2017 – Gold Rush! from Golden Retriever Rescue in Nebraska

This end-of-the-year celebration is always a giant event and full of fun activities for all members of the family. Join GRRIN at Offutt Air Force Base and support one of the most popular rescues in the area!

*Fun activities for dogs, kids and adults! *All leashed, well behaved dogs welcome.

*Halloween costume parade for the dogs.

September 30, 2017 – Roverfront Celebration

Join us for Roverfront: A Day for Dogs at Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park on Saturday, September 30 from 10 AM to 5 PM. Enjoy a day of FREE classes which cover topics like training tips, vet care, and advocating for your dog in a public setting. In addition to some awesome educational opportunities, you will also have access to fun activities, a variety of pet-friendly vendors, as well as some delicious food options to carry you through the day!

This event benefits Midlands Humane Society and Nebraska Humane Society. Donations to these organizations are encouraged when entering the park.
